Kuthodaw Pagoda
The Kuthodaw Pagoda research project has been generously supported by several research grants and organisations, including:
- Chuo Academic Research Institute (CARI) of the Rissho Kosei-kai (Japan) grant 2014–2016, to clean all stelae, digitally photograph all stelae, produce a database of the images, and create an electronic edition of the Kuthodaw Pagoda recension. Value approx. AUD$90,000 (¥ 9,000,000). Project title: The Preservation and Study of the Kuthodaw Pagoda marble-stelae recension of the Pali Buddhist canon in Mandalay, Myanmar.
- Nan Tien Institute (NTI), including the digitalisation of resources from the British Library and Library of Congress, two field trips to Myanmar, and attendance and presentation of a research paper at the XVIIIth Congress of the International Association of Buddhist Studies, University of Toronto, Canada, 2017.
- Sydney Southeast Asian Centre cluster research grant 2015–2017, to develop a digital platform which dynamically links high-resolution images of the inscriptions and Roman script transliterations. Value AUD$9,860. Project title: World’s Biggest Book: Textual Transmission of the Pali Canon in Myanmar.
- Sydney Southeast Asian Centre conference fund 2015–2016, to attend and present a research paper at the Australian-Myanmar Institute Conference, Yangon, Myanmar, 2015. Value $2000.
- Prakaś Foundation, including funding, strategic planning and program management relating to digital aspects of the Kuthodaw Pagoda project.
- The project has also benefited from the generous support of the transcription project by the Venerable Ashin Nyanissara (Sitagu Sayadaw), Myanmar.
